Don Bosco HSS Panjim volunteers Cleanliness Drive at Panaji Market

QUICK BITE -

The NSS Unit, along with the Consumer Club and Photography Club of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School in Panjim, Goa, undertook a significant initiative aimed at enhancing community service and environmental sustainability. Collaborating with the Corporation of the City of Panaji and the Rotaract Club of Panaji, this collective effort culminated in a Cleanliness Drive at the Panjim Market on September 29, 2024 engaging 120 enthusiastic NSS volunteer students.

The Cleanliness Drive commenced early in the morning, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Students, equipped with gloves, trash bags, and an unwavering spirit, spread out across the bustling market area. Their mission was clear: to clean up litter and promote awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean environment. The market, known for its vibrant atmosphere and local vendors, witnessed a transformation as students worked diligently, demonstrating their commitment to a cleaner community.

The enthusiasm among the students was palpable. They interacted with local shopkeepers and residents, encouraging them to join in the effort to keep the area clean. This engagement not only fostered a sense of community but also highlighted the role of young individuals in driving change. Teachers and members of the Corporation of the City of Panaji, as well as the Rotaract Club, provided guidance and support, ensuring the event ran smoothly and effectively.

Following the Cleanliness Drive, the students participated in a Swachhata Hi Seva Rally that started from the market and concluded at Don Bosco School. This rally was not merely a celebration of their hard work; it served as a platform to spread the message of cleanliness and environmental responsibility. As students marched through the streets and chanting slogans, they drew attention to the significance of community service. The rally emphasized that cleanliness is not just a task but a way of life that benefits everyone.

This initiative was a powerful reminder of the impact that youth can have on their communities. By participating in the Cleanliness Drive, students learned valuable lessons about teamwork, leadership, and the importance of civic responsibility. They left with a deeper understanding of environmental challenges and a renewed commitment to sustainability. The event not only beautified the Panjim Market but also inspired a generation of students to take action for their community and environment.
