THE BREAD OF LIFE ... LIFE ENRICHMENT - RETREAT

QUICK BITE -

A retreat for the Roman Catholic students of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Panjim, was held on 6th and 7th September 2024. The retreat was attended by around 140 students from std 12th. The theme of the retreat was ‘The Bread of Life - Life Enrichment.’ The key speaker for the day was Fr. Jason Coelho. Fr. Jason began the session by welcoming the students and emphasized the retreat's objective to provide students with moments of prayer and reflection. He stressed the need to have a deeper understanding of themselves, who they are, and their connection with God. He further highlighted personalities through a group activity that helped students realize they were the cornerstone of the community and society at large.
The session that followed was conducted by Fr. Austin Fernandes. He enlightened the students about the journey of faith being a personal experience, facing life’s challenges, and finding peace. He concluded that through prayer, meditation, and reflection, one’s faith could mature. An inspirational film, ‘Facing the Giants,’ a Christian drama film, was screened to highlight the need to seek guidance through prayer and encouragement. Through reflection, students expressed their views on how God's strength and guidance helps humans to transform themselves. They shared their experiences of trust in God and how they overcame big challenges.

The second day’s session was conducted by Fr. Ralin Dsouza. He reflected on living in alignment with the Spirit, allowing the Spirit to guide one's thoughts, actions, and decisions. Fr. Jason Coelho then sought Mother Mary’s protection and guidance for all students. The Sacrament of Confession followed, during which students were guided on making a good confession. Fr. Anthony Fernandes discussed the importance of the sacrament of reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist as a way to salvation. The students expressed that the sacrament of reconciliation helped them find peace. The retreat concluded with the recitation of the renewal prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, led by Fr. Jason, bringing the day to an end at 2:15 pm. The retreat was coordinated by Ms. Cheryl Martins.
