The NSS Unit of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Panjim-Goa, successfully held a seven-day Special NSS Camp at St. Theresa’s Educational Complex, Candolim from 1st November 2024 to 7th November 2024. Under the theme “All Out For... Big Dreams,†the camp aimed to broaden students’ perspectives and deepen their commitment to community service.
Four enthusiastic groups – Dreamers, Weavers, Navigators, and Builders – led by group leaders, took on various responsibilities, while Mast. Shourya Sanjay Gandhi served as the Camp Leader and Ms. Kaashvi Dhawan as Assistant Leader, both playing pivotal roles in ensuring the camp’s smooth operation.
The camp was inaugurated with a heartfelt ceremony led by Chief Guest Mr. Blaise Fernandes, Sarpanch of Candolim, and Guest of Honour Fr. Ryan Estibeiro, Parish Priest of Candolim Church and Manager of St. Theresa High School. Alongside Programme Officers Mr. Nilesh Pai and Mrs. Muriel Alphonso, the Camp Leader marked the camp’s commencement by watering a potted plant, symbolizing growth and dedication. Volunteers recited the NSS prayer song, and a powerful street play followed, emphasizing social responsibility. Mast. Shourya Sanjay Gandhi delivered a thoughtful vote of thanks, acknowledging the dignitaries, participants, and supporters.
Each day of the camp was meticulously planned to instill teamwork, practical learning, and self-reliance. Volunteers rotated through responsibilities like cooking, cleaning, project field-work, organizing afternoon educational sessions, and cultural programmes in the evening. These daily duties nurtured essential life skills, including teamwork, empathy, resilience, and unity. Working alongside peers, the volunteers built a supportive community that underscored the spirit of NSS.
A major highlight was the street play performed by NSS volunteers for the local community, addressing crucial issues such as the dangers of drinking and driving, the need for unity, and effective waste management. Through this engaging format, students sparked meaningful conversations and inspired community members to adopt positive changes in their lives. Volunteers also took the challenge to clean the entire stretch of roadside starting from St. Lawrence Church to Helipat, Candolim.
Additionally, volunteers visited Arc of Hope, an old-age home, where they played games, danced, sang, and shared gifts with the residents. This visit filled the day with warmth and cheer, creating heartfelt memories for both students and residents.
Throughout the week, participants engaged in educational sessions led by experts, which expanded their understanding and inspired reflection:

â—† Snake Awareness: Students learned about local snake species, their ecological role, and safe handling practices for snake encounters.
â—† Astronomy and Stargazing: A mesmerizing stargazing session that sparked wonder and encouraged students to appreciate the beauty of the cosmos.
â—† Beekeeping and Agriculture: Volunteers gained insight into sustainable agricultural practices and the basics of beekeeping, fostering a deeper appreciation for nature and self-sustainability.
The camp days began with morning yoga sessions, rejuvenating students and preparing them for the day with focus and tranquility. The camp concluded with a lively campfire event, where Fr. Principal, teachers, and especially Bro. James joined in to celebrate the week’s achievements, adding a touch of joy and camaraderie to the evening.
The Special NSS Camp of 2024 was a memorable journey of self-discovery, community service, and personal growth. Students left with strengthened connections to their community and a renewed commitment to their “Big Dreams.†This camp taught that true success lies in serving others and that Dreams are best pursued with a spirit of dedication and social responsibility. Each participant carried home the inspiration to make a positive difference in the world, grounded in the values of NSS and the motto “All Out For... Big Dreams.â€
