QUICK BITE -

Future Medico Club in collaboration with the Health Club of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Panjim-Goa, organized a Visit to ‘Manipal Hospital’ at Dona Paula on October 26, 2024.

Manipal Hospital, Dona Paula, Goa is one of the largest private hospitals in the state offering the highest number of specialties, highest number of full-time doctors to provide individual and customized patient care. The purpose of the field trip was to help understand the functioning of the various departments in the hospital as well as to gain valuable insights from the experienced staff.

Upon arrival, students were greeted by Ms. Joyce and Mr. Vinayak who led the students through the various departments of the hospital and explained with due diligence their roles.

CSSD (Central Sterile Supply Department) of the hospital wherein unidirectional flow of work was practiced to avoid confusion and mixing of the soiled linen with sterile. General stores of the hospital provided surgical equipment, consumables, and various instruments.

Pharmacy provided prescription medications and drugs. As the hospital had only one Pharmacy on the ground floor, to ensure swift delivery of certain drugs and medications for inpatients, a pneumatic chute system was installed.
Vacant hospital rooms to observe the facilities provided. Mrs. Joyce mentioned that moments before a patient is admitted, cleaning and engineering teams perform a check of the room to ensure cleanliness of the linen, room, and the working of all electrical appliances within. The hospital takes necessary precautions to ensure patients safety from other patients suffering from communicable diseases and special consideration is made for vulnerable patients to be admitted in rooms closer to the nurses’ ward.

The hospital had a variety of safety measures in the form of various colour codes based on the type of situation. Code black, pink, blue, red and so on which enabled staff to take quick action according to the situation, allowing for effective resolution of any issues. Mrs. Joyce added that the hospital staff engage in a monthly mock drill to keep themselves alert. There were multiple staircases with safety railings ensuring a swift escape in cases of fire, violent threats etc. The entire hospital was fitted with internet routers, fire alarms and smoke detection systems as precautions for any unforeseen disasters. Additionally, all hospital staff are trained in Basic Life Support, to provide immediate response incase of Code Blue (Cardiac Arrest) for individuals affected, along with specialized teams who are dispatched on calling the code alert.

The spacious Physiotherapy Room had the latest facilities and benefits .
Overall it was truly an enriching experience to visit the Manipal Hospital. Through this trip, students learnt the multitude of precautions and safety measures undertaken by the hospital as well as the sheer amount of care undertaken to ensure quick and smooth delivery of treatment.
