‘Commerce Career Day’

‘Commerce Career Day’ Held at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Panjim

The Commerce Faculty of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Panjim organized the ‘Commerce Career Day’ on August 18, 2023. The objective was to provide students a platform to investigate work tasks, understand the role of different professions, have an idea of the salaries in different industries, understand the job outlooks and to provide resources corresponding to careers they are considering.
The event was divided into different segments as follows:
The inaugural session began. with a prayer followed by a novel act of watering the money plant by the Principal Fr. Tamatur Cardozo, Fr. Jacinto Dias(Administrator), Mr. Rajesh Kalangutekar(Head of Department) and student representatives. The keynote address was delivered by Fr. Jacinto Dias in which he spoke of the importance of skills required to make a venture successful.
The first session began with a talk on Careers in Commerce delivered by Ms. Sulaxa Gawas a faculty member at the Nirmala Institute of Education Panjim. The main objective of the talk was to create awareness among students regarding available career options and help them in identifying their career preference according to their core-competencies. The students shared their knowledge about themselves by identifying skills and interests. It was observed that students found reliable answers to their queries on entrance exams required and were motivated to focus on their goals.
The second session comprised of three competitions and a quiz designed to enhance the students’ knowledge on different career aspects class wise as below:
The first competition was titled Budding Aspirants (Role Play) Each class presented a role play on three professions assigned. The objective of the competition was to act out and make sense of real-life situations. The students explored, investigated and experimented on twelve career roles. The initiative also developed their social skills, as they collaborate with other classmates

The second competition was titled Think Tank (Model Building) each class had to present a model on certain contemporary themes such as crypto-currency, e-commerce, e-banking and artificial intelligence. The objective of model building was to provide a valid representation of the defined system operation in modern commercial setups. The initiative facilitated extensive review of available resources in the field of commerce. It was observed that each team confidently presented their research work through presentations.
The third competition was titled Advertising Acuity (Advertisements) each class was asked to create a value based product and devise an advertisement to market it. The same was judged on the basis of the product, message clarity and creative thinking. The objective of the competition was to build skills in students where they learn to inform, to persuade, and to remind about products and services. It was observed that students collaborated their ideas on products and services with a strong value based message.
The fourth round was Mind Tentacles (Business Quiz) the areas covered were identification of taglines and slogans, business personality identification, identification of company logo, networth of companies followed by the jackpot round on advertisements. The objective of the Business Quiz was to evaluate the students' knowledge of different aspects of Commerce and Industry. It was observed that Students focused well on reading material on books, journals, internet etc. it was also noted that with the right attitude of learning students built a strong sense of confidence.

There was a tie for the Winner’s trophy with the XII Commerce A and XII Commerce B being declared as winners. The event ended at 1.45 p.m. followed by a prayer.
